Day 2 - FOLLOW JESUS
If we are going to walk into battle, if we are going to engage in the good fight, we need to know who we are following. Who is leading you into battle?
Yesterday we asked; “If fear was no obstacle in your life, what would you attempt for God?” Here’s the powerful truth: when we choose to follow Jesus, we don’t need to live in fear. God never works through fear. The weapons of God’s kingdom are truth and love.
Truth is powerful. Truth sets us free. Jesus said that He is the truth (John 14:6). To fight the good fight, we need to follow truth.
When we go to the dentist or doctor, we are not only expecting them to tell us the truth, we are paying them to do so! A vague diagnosis is not what we want to hear. We want the honest truth.
In Mark 10 Jesus spoke with a rich young ruler and He didn’t hold back the truth.
“Jesus looked at him and loved him…” That’s important to acknowledge, Jesus only ever speaks truth into our life out of His love for us.
Jesus gave the man what he needed to hear, even if it wasn’t what he wanted to hear. In order to experience the fullness of life that Jesus had for him, that man needed to hear the truth, no matter how raw it seemed. Jesus knew that what the man was seeking required him to first acknowledge the truth about what was gripping his heart.
What’s gripping your heart today? What are the things that are filling your life and blocking the truth and love of Jesus?
If we are to live in freedom and victory, we need to let go of the things that are gripping our heart – we need to lose our life for the sake of Jesus and His good news. Then we will truly experience freedom.
The more we hold on to who we are, what we do, the things of this world, then the harder the fight will become. If we want to save our life, then we must lose it.
Today, choose to yield all of who you are to Jesus. Choose to let go of your worldly desires and pick up your cross. Choose to follow Jesus.
Make it personal:
Ask God today: “Lord, show me your truth & show me your love.”
What I am I holding on to that I need to let go of?
How can I release that today and pick up my cross?
