SHAME OFF YOU

DAY 4 OF 8

Day 4.

JARS OF CLAY

The Bible is a revelation of the awesomeness of God and a narrative of humanity’s unrelenting journey with brokenness provoked by shame.

Spend time contemplating the following examples:

Adam and Eve: the shame of nakedness [Genesis 3:10].

Abraham and Sarah: the shame of barrenness [Genesis 16:1 ff].

Gideon: the shame of weakness and hiding [Judges 6:11-16].

Mephibosheth: the shame of a disability [2 Samuel 9:1-13].

David: the shame of adultery [2 Samuel 11:1ff].

The haemorrhaging woman: the shame of impurity and exploitation [Mark 5:24-34].

Bartimaeus: the shame of blindness, poverty, and begging [Mark 10:46-52].

The ten lepers: the shame of leprosy and spiritual uncleanness [Luke 17:11-19].

Judas: the shame of betrayal [Matthew 27:1-10].

FOR THOUGHT AND CONTEMPLATION

“We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.”
—2 Corinthians 4:7 [NLT]

Through Christ, we are a new humanity or fragile jars of clay filled with the light of God's glory. Subsequently, we are fragmented, and fragile humans supernaturally infused with the empowering presence of God.

Spend time in prayer, thanking God for His glorious and empowering presence in your life.
