Everyone. Everywhere. Part 1

DAY 6 OF 20

The Purpose of Your Life: What is the meaning and purpose of life? This is the second question that college staff members and students in our ministry ask when using the Perspectives Method of evangelism on the campuses of Texas A&M University and Blinn College.  The answers vary widely, but there is one consistent theme—every person we talk to desires meaning and purpose. Since we live in a broken world, we are all tempted to find meaning for our lives outside of the purpose God has designed us for. If we want to combat this temptation, there is a question we all need to answer: what is God’s purpose for my life if I am a follower of Jesus?

Jesus summarizes the entire Old Testament Law by quoting two verses we now call the Great Commandments: love God above all else from Deuteronomy, and love others the way you care for yourself from Leviticus. After Jesus rose from the dead and before He ascended into heaven, He added one more primary command for this New Covenant age, the Great Commission: be my witnesses and make disciples. The whole Bible can be summarized by these three commands. As believers, the purpose of our lives is clear: love God, love others, and make disciples. Helping people find and follow Jesus is the most loving thing you can do for others.

  • Questions:
    • What is one way that you can improve your relationship with God?
    • What is one practical way that you can better love the people in your life?
    • Do you feel prepared to share your faith? If you don’t feel equipped, check out bit.ly/campusevangelism
  • Prayer: God, help me to better love you and others through the power of your Holy Spirit.  Please show me where I fall short and how I can improve. Lord, keep my eyes focused on your love, how I can love others, and how I can share your love. Amen.
