Everyone. Everywhere. Part 1ಮಾದರಿ
Moses and Jethro: Sometimes God calls us to speak truth into people’s lives even when it is not easy. When we share the Gospel, we need to be bold in our faith and with our words as we share with the people we care about. Being a source of love, grace, and truth to the people God has put in our lives can often mean giving counsel that the person may not want to hear.
Thankfully, God does not leave us alone in this task. He provides wisdom and examples that we can follow. One of those examples comes from reading about Moses and Jethro in the book of Exodus. Jethro was Moses’ father-in-law, as well as a mentor in Moses’ life. Moses had just brought the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and was now acting as judge for all the people. He was tasking himself with an impossible amount of work, and Jethro saw that what he was doing was not good. Jethro spoke truth into Moses’ life: he informed Moses that what he was doing was not good for him or his people. He then gave practical suggestions for how Moses could change and explained that doing so would benefit both him and Israel. Moses listened to the advice Jethro gave and was far better for it.
We see here how we can give Godly wisdom to those we care about. So even though the Lord might call us to have hard conversations, we should always approach these moments from a place of genuine care and concern, desiring what is truly best for others.
- Questions:
- How do you typically handle conflict and difficult conversations?
- What do you learn from Jethro’s interaction with Moses? How does this change hard conversations you will have moving forward?
- Application:
- Spend the next 5 minutes praying and asking the Lord to reveal to you any conversations that you may be avoiding or conversations that you have handled incorrectly in the past and need to ask forgiveness for. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you discernment, wisdom, and peace when hard conversations need to happen.
