Truth Unchanging ಮಾದರಿ
Can you imagine if you had the opportunity to walk into a room right now and speak to Jesus face-to-face? What if you went in, spent an hour talking, and walked out, never pausing to hear what He had to say in return?
God loves it when we share our hearts with Him, but I believe He loves it just as much when we listen for His voice and respond to what He has to say. So my question for us today is this: How much of your prayer life is spent listening?
The ability to hear God doesn’t just require a God who speaks. It requires hearts that hear. If God is willing to talk to us, why don’t we spend more time in His presence just listening?
There is a story in Scripture about Hannah’s son, named Samuel. Hannah had promised to give this child to the Lord since He heard her cry, and she kept her word. Even though Samuel was very young, Hannah had taken him to be raised at the temple.
One night, Samuel heard God calling him, but he didn’t recognize the voice as belonging to the Lord. Instead, he thought it was the voice of his mentor, Eli. Samuel asked Eli, “Have you been calling for me?”
“Eli told Samuel, ‘Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”’” (See 1 Samuel 3:1-10.)
Perhaps this is sound advice for our lives as well. Perhaps in a world that is so full of noise, we just need to stop, quiet our hearts, and say, “Your servant is listening.” I believe the Lord is saying to us through this passage of Scripture,
I have been calling to you since you were young. I have been chasing down your heart so I can talk to you since you were born. Do you hear Me calling you by name? I have so much I want to say to you. Are you listening?
Lord, we stop to listen for Your voice without an agenda, without petitions, without any purpose other than to hear You speak. And God, just as You replied to Samuel saying, “Samuel! Samuel!” we know that you’re calling our names right now. We are eager to spend time getting to know Your voice better today. In Jesus’s name we pray. Amen.
