Follow The Rabbiಮಾದರಿ
This photo is of a place on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee called Ein Sheva, where Peter and the disciples had breakfast with Jesus after his resurrection.
This is also the place where Jesus called Peter to again “follow me”. Ein Sheva means the “the spring of seven”, and has been the workplace for fishermen for thousands of years because the seven springs that run into the sea here attract fish. So when the disciples returned to fishing after their rabbi’s death, Jesus knew to find them here, at their place of work.
Jesus chose fishermen to be his disciples because he knew he could leverage their skill and talent for God. As my friend Rabbi Evan Moffic says: “A good master realizes his disciples’ unique gifts. Jesus knows that someone who has patience to catch fish may also have the patience and character to develop spiritual followers.” When Jesus called people to follow him, he gave their physical skills a sacred purpose. And I believe that Jesus still does this today!
Whether your workplace is a garage, a mall, an office or a construction site, I believe Jesus wants to meet you there—and give your skills a sacred purpose. For me, he took my background as a TV sports reporter and my simple interest in photography … and used these skills to help me teach the Bible.
So my question for you today is this: How is Jesus calling YOU to use YOUR skills for a sacred purpose?
For reflection:
"Don't be afraid! From now on you'll be fishing for people!" — Luke 5:10
