Matthew portrays Jesus as the suffering servant as seen in Isaiah and the Psalms. In this way, his Jewish audience can see the Prophetic point in their precious Messiah yielding to the Romans. It must be done to fulfill the Scriptures. Ok, we can stomach that. "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" This is why Matthew will portray Jesus in this way on the Cross--it's victorious in its fulfillment! Things aren't off track--things are actually right on track!
