How To See Angels

DAY 2 OF 3

When Elisha first stepped outside, he didn’t say a word.

Rather, it’s his servant we hear from first…

“Umm, boss. This is bad, like really bad! What are we going to do!?”

Elisha responds calmly with two things:

  • Encouragement not to be afraid.
  • Evidence for why they should not be afraid.

This next part is very important.

What Elisha saw and what his servant saw weren’t any different. They both saw the army surrounding them.

What was different, at a fundamental level, was how they interpreted what they saw.

This difference can actually be boiled down to a term used in modern psychology called “The Framing Effect.”

The Framing Effect causes people to make different choices (i.e. thoughts and actions) depending on how a situation or problem is presented.

Let me give you another example.

Would you be more likely to play a game that had a 25% chance of winning or a 75% chance of losing? Statistically, more people will choose the 25% chance game even though both numbers communicate the SAME thing.

How you present, interpret and frame a problem has an immense impact on how you will approach it.

As we’ll find out tomorrow, it also impacts what you see…
