If God Is For Us: Seven Days Of Celebrating The Power Of God’s Grace

DAY 7 OF 7

TAKE IT TO THE WORLD

Every human being on earth was made in the image of God. Each one has an eternal destiny—either heaven or hell. That means there is no one walking the earth who is not in need of the gospel. Eternal lives are at stake here. Hearts are at stake as well. The only way for a heart to be aflame for God is through the pursuing, saving grace of God, which transforms hearts of stone to hearts of flesh (Ezek. 36:26). And while God can and does access hearts directly, He typically chooses to do this work through humans who have tasted His love and are willing to share it.

Opportunities to share the gospel are all around us. We have a treasure—a great treasure. We keep it in “jars of clay” (2 Cor. 4:7), which means we’re human and won’t get it right 100 percent of the time. But we don’t have to! God is the one who does the heart work. We simply need to be faithful to share.

Our concern is not just with finding the right words to say—though that’s not easy. (Trust me. I’ve been there.) The when and where and how of evangelism seems to stump people as much as, if not more than, what to actually say. Perhaps we want an angel to appear and tell us that now is the time. And of course it would be much easier if someone simply walked up to us and asked, “How do I become a Christian?” That does happen, but not often.

One of the best ways I’ve found is to make it a part of my everyday life, and one place it can begin is the home. Hospitality is not only a wonderful means of sharing Christ’s love in a practical way, it also provides an opportunity to build friendships and share the gospel.

To be clear, showing Christ’s love to others by inviting them into our lives and homes is really important, but it is not evangelism. Sharing the gospel means we must open our mouths and actually use words, because “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Rom. 10:17). But hospitality can definitely be one means to that end. It’s a great way to set the stage for evangelism.
