The Ascent

DAY 8 OF 15

THE BLESSING OF WORK

It can be easy to try to separate the routine, everyday, natural parts of our lives from the spiritual part of our lives. We can so easily find ourselves pursuing our careers, and ignore the God who gives purpose to them. But Psalm 127 reminds us that we labor in vain if we do it separately from God.

There is such great encouragement in the fact that we are not striving to build something ourselves; we actually get to be a part of what God is building.

When we approach whatever is in front of us with the perspective that God wants to be involved, it’s amazing what excitement it can bring to our job.

Let our prayer be “God, help me find what you want in today.”

Let’s be willing to give everything that we have to God, and trust that He will bless it. Then we can then end of the day with the satisfaction that we have given it to Him as worship.

We can pursue our work, bring it to God in submission, and find His blessing in it.

About this Plan

The Ascent

The Ascent… is an invitation to climb. It’s an invitation to proximity. It’s an invitation to intimacy. In the Old Testament there are 15 psalms of ascent. They are songs that Israel sang on their way to celebrate God at festivals. They express amazing grace and they quiet anxious fears. They are songs that provide courage and support as we travel the road of faith and discover who we are and what God’s called us to. It has been said that the Psalms of Ascent are like placing your feet in the footprints of others and reminding ourselves to be moved again; to keep walking forward in the direction of God. This devotional is an invitation to lift our eyes and to ascend the heights; to becoming Jesus’ climbing companions.
