Called to Go Fish
Do you have beautiful feet? J. Oswald Sanders told the story of a native missionary in India who walked barefoot from village to village preaching the Gospel. After trekking many miles, full of discouragement, he came to a village and tried to share, but he was refused and driven out of town. Exhausted, he laid himself down under a tree near the edge of this village and slept.
When he awoke, people were hovering over him. The entire town had gathered around. The headman of the village confessed they came to look him over while he was sleeping. When they saw the missionary’s battered and blistered feet, they concluded that he must be worthy to listen to. They became eager to hear the message this man was willing to suffer for.
Has sharing the Gospel (Good News) with someone ever caused you to endure some type of suffering? If so, did this tempt you to give up or compel you forward? I hope to motivate you forward in boldness by imagining what is possible when we share the message of Christ.
When you drop a rock into water, you cannot stop it from making ripples. It’s just a physical law of motion. The same is true regarding the actions we take in this life. Our choices carry over into the lives of those around us, which then will affect those around them, and so on. Our witness about the salvation found only through Christ Jesus will cause ripples, too.
Think about it. Jesus called His disciples to be His first witnesses. Their faithful witness caused a great ripple that eventually reached you and me some two thousand years later!
The same can be true for us. What if new ripples from sharing the saving power of Christ began with you?
In Isaiah 52:7, it says: How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news …
You are called to have beautiful feet! In fact, Jesus challenged His disciples, who were fishermen by day, to go out and fish for people. Essentially, He was telling us to go out and spread the Gospel to everyone! So, forget the pedicure—your feet are beautiful when you just go fish! You can begin right where you are. Share Jesus with those close to you. Share His message with the people in your home, your extended family, co-workers, neighbors, the store clerk, and maybe even the person sitting near you at church. You never know what ripples will occur from your obedience to God’s calling to go out and share His Good News.
That is our calling in Christ. We are called to bear fruit, wash feet, break bread, and go fish! To learn more about your calling, grab some friends and check out this year’s free, 4-week Sisters Bible Study—The Call—at www.life.church/sisters
Prayer: Perfect Father, may we have gorgeously worn-out feet! You called us to go fish for people. May Your kingdom constantly multiply, as we, Your children, do Your will! I ask that more and more Christians will be active in sharing their faith. Send more of us all over the world to share Your Gospel.
