WAITING TO BE TRANSFORMED
When I fall apart You are my strength / Help me not forget / Seeing every scar You make me whole / You’re my healer
God does a lot of work we don’t see while we wait. It’s in this unseen work where we are transformed, healed and, ultimately, made new. God cares about our character, and it’s often in the midst of the waiting where He does His best character-building.
Philippians 2:13 (NLT) says, “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”
God assures us that, though we wait, He’s working. His promise is coming. I love the verse in Habakkuk 2:3 (NLT) that says, “If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take time. It will not be delayed.”
Have you ever considered that maybe the purpose behind the wait, behind the pain, is your transformation? It’s a hard truth to swallow. Sometimes I’d rather trade slow and transformational for easy and immediate. But when I ask for things too quickly, it’s likely God shakes His head and thinks, just wait. My plans are so much better.
Transformation is a process, and waiting is a prerequisite. On the other side of transformation lies strength, perspective and a newfound confidence. When we allow God to transform us through the wait, we are forced to trust Him in new ways. We are forced to give Him the reins and give Him space to do what only He can do.
Sometimes the purpose for the wait is the transformation that takes place during the wait. Once His promise is fulfilled—in His way— we’re able to look back and see that we’re all the better for it. For we often come out of the wait looking a little more like Jesus.
As we wait for God to move, my prayer is that we won’t lose sight of the fact that God is already at work on our behalf. He’s working in ways we can’t see and places we can’t fathom.
My hope is in the Promise Maker, but more than that, these days I’m choosing to put my hope in the Promise Keeper. I know He is faithful when He brings the miracle, but He is just as faithful in the waiting. This I know to be true.

About this Plan
In the midst of a long, painful season of waiting, I wrote a song called “While I Wait.” This five-part devotional series explores the root of the song. I hope these devotionals remind you that while the wait may be long, you are never alone in the middle of it. God is always with us in the wait, and I pray you will feel Him draw near to you over these next five days. Waiting with you, Lincoln Brewster
