James. A 21-day reading plan by Doxa Deo.

DAY 7 OF 21

James 1:26-27 (ESV) If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

There is a saying “put your money where your mouth is.” Our talk must be aligned with our beliefs. When your communication is polluted it is an indicator that you haven’t really settled what you believe.

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.  Ephesians 4:29 ESV

Pure religion is living a generous and open life – living out the love you yourself have received.

Reflection:

Do you struggle to control your tongue? How can you renew your mind and access the power of the Holy Spirit in this regard?

What are you doing for others?
