DAY 40 OF 60

Day 40

GROUNDHOG DAY

[Scheduled Reading: Jeremiah 51-52, Lamentations, Ezekiel 1-13]

Jeremiah ends with a brief account of the fall of Jerusalem and exile to Babylon. Yes, we’ve read this account several times now.

(Sort of feels like the movie Groundhog Day, doesn’t it?)

Lamentations includes a set of poetic laments concerning the fall of Jerusalem. The author is not confirmed, but many suggest it was Jeremiah.

Ezekiel seems to be next man in the prophet relay handoff, from Jeremiah, and his account begins just five years into the exile period.

The prophet commissioning experience in Chapter 2 and 3 reminds me of the prophet Jeremiah. It’s a dangerous job.

Ezekiel is God’s “watchman.” If he is not careful in serving his watchman duties, God would hold him responsible for the wickedness of others.

What a heavy calling.

Strangely, there was a problem in those days with false prophets (Chapter 13), as there are today. I’m not sure why anyone in those days would want to pose as a false prophet given it’s dirty and deadly nature.

And guess what? You’re at Day 40! For 40 days you’ve been reading the Bible in huge quantities.

Keep it up!
