DAY 2 OF 33

 Fight Strong

Kellen Cox

Ready:

“Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.”

1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Set:

“Come on team, keep fighting!” Almost every athlete has heard their coach say something like this during a game. Letting up for just one minute could mean the difference between winning and losing. But how do we “fight strong” in our everyday lives, not just in sports?

In Matthew 26 Jesus had to ”fight strong.” He prayed for God’s will to be done…right before He was handed over to be crucified and killed. Jesus surrendered to God’s way. When the crowd showed up to arrest Jesus, Peter (one of Jesus’ followers) pulled out a sword and cut off a man’s ear! Peter panicked. When he saw Jesus being taken away, he became afraid and tried to take the situation into his own hands.

Ultimately, Jesus’ death and resurrection gives us eternal life with God if we believe. Thank goodness for Jesus’ obedience to God and surrendering to His way.

If you want to “fight strong,” answer these questions:

1. In what areas of your life are you fighting like Peter? Peter was reactive in his fight because of fear. He tried to control the situation his own way.

2. How can you begin to fight strong like Jesus? Jesus was proactive in His fight by praying and surrendering to God’s way. He didn’t try to control the situation.

3. How can reading the Bible and praying help you fight strong like Jesus? Reading God’s Word and prayer help us understand how to be obedient and surrender to His ways.

Surrendering to live God’s way helps us “fight strong” like Jesus!

Go:

1. Do you often find yourself trying to take matters into your own hands?

2. What’s one way you can fight like Jesus this week?

Ephesians 6:12

God, help me “fight strong” in every area of my life. I want to love You by fully surrendering to You and Your ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Strong

Athletes are conditioned to be strong both physically and mentally. But as Christian competitors, we have the game-changing advantage of being spiritually strong. With Jesus Christ and His Word transforming us daily, we can be strong 24/7! The FCA Strong Devotional tackles issues that coaches and athletes during competition and in life. This 31-day plan will also help establish a consistent, daily quiet time with God, and includes extra readings and suggested prayer.
