Longing for Motherhoodಮಾದರಿ
Day Seven – Don’t Lose Heart
In the midst of grieving our dream of motherhood, it is vital that we fix our eyes on God. As believers in Jesus Christ, we have the key to supernatural hope: “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure” (Heb. 6:19).
The author of Hebrews uses a metaphor here that’s used often throughout the Scriptures: a boat at sea. When faced with storms big or small, ships can drop anchor beneath the waves to keep them secured in a particular spot, so they don’t drift off course or crash into the rocks. When the storms of life overwhelm and threaten to undo us, Jesus is our hope, the anchor for our souls.
As I’ve walked through childlessness, I haven’t always defaulted to choosing Jesus as my anchor. It was often easier to cling to people and place my hope in other temporal things. When I began sharing my story, I expected way too much out of my friends. I wanted them to anchor my faith, and while having friends is vital during trials, only God can offer hope and security.
Hope comes from God, but it may not be our first response to suffering. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of hope is “to desire with expectation of fulfillment” or “to expect with confidence.” When you feel like all hope is lost, you can pray with Paul, “may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 15:13). We have the capacity to walk forward with hope and joy, even in the face of disappointment or tragedy.
Rest in the fact that God strengthens your heart with hope!
