Everyone Is Leading Someone

DAY 7 OF 9

Opened and Closed Doors

In addition to God’s Word, and gut checks, the leader must be looking for doors. If you are at the front of the pack, you’re going to come to the door first. Your job is to discern whether the door is for you—whether it is opening or closing. If you are on the right path, you’ll encounter doors that are flung open, and doors that slam shut. These doors are directions; they are the Lord’s guidance and grace as He builds the narrative of your journey. But whether the doors you encounter are opened or closed, every path of God ends with someone bragging on God’s goodness. God is the one who opens and shuts doors, not us.

When a door closes, feel free to knock on it in prayer, but please don’t kick it in. You are not a thief looking to break into a locked house. You are a child of God who is trying to discern the leading of your heavenly Father. Accept both the opened and the closed doors as guidance. If you have spent time with Him, honoring His Word, and if your gut check has led you to the present door, then rest in Him. He is at work and He holds the master key.

The Word of God … a personal gut check … opened and closed doors ... these are the checkpoints on the leader’s path to knowing God’s will. When the next step of His will becomes apparent, then what?

About this Plan

Everyone Is Leading Someone

Almost everyone wants to be a leader. And the truth is, everyone is leading someone. For those who lead—either at home, in the marketplace, in a church, in a community or social organization—knowing God’s will goes far beyond the personal. Leaders have followers; as the leader goes, so go the followers. If you are a leader in any arena, someone is always looking to you for direction.
