DAY 17 OF 25

THE GOD OF PEACE AND HOPE - Day 2

Jerusalem is a mountainous city. At 787 meters’ elevation, Jerusalem sits at the end of a long and winding road beginning at the Dead Sea, which is 430 meters below sea level. When the Psalmist starts this poem with “I lift up my eyes to the mountains” that is what he is literally doing! He is peering at the road ahead to the Holy City, wondering how he will make it there.

When you're at the beginning of a long journey, do you ask your Lord for help? We've all had moments in our lives where we're at the start of something new. It can be exciting. It can be terrifying. It can be both! But look at the confidence that the Psalmist gains when he realizes: “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Take some time now to think about a situation in your life where you need the help of the Lord. Maybe it's a friend who doesn't know Jesus yet. Or it could be a relationship that needs repair. You could even be facing a very big change in your world. Whatever it is, invite God in today. Do not forget that this is the God who can do the impossible. Do not forget that this is the God who cares.

About this Plan

JOURNAL ~ Psalms

In his ‘Letter to Marcellinus’, Athanasius of Alexandria (4c) said, “Most Scripture speaks to us; the Psalms speak for us." This devotional contains a selection from the Psalms. Through these selections, we hope to show that nothing is off limits when it comes to prayer. Anything and everything, even things that come from the darkest parts of our hearts, can be brought to God. He listens!
