Nobody Like You From Red Rocks Worship

DAY 2 OF 3

“Our sin and shame forever overcome. The grave was overwhelmed by perfect love.”

The second verse of “Nobody Like You” touches on the position we find ourselves in here on Earth. We are reminded of God’s overwhelming mercy for us in spite of our sin. The truth is, even on our best, most pious day of living, we could not come close to being good enough to be right with God on our own accord. God’s mercy for us is a free gift we receive when we are found in Jesus, and as Ephesians 2:8 reminds us, “it is by grace you have been saved through faith - and this is not from yourselves.” And ultimately, that is the best news we could receive as humans! How could we possibly ever measure up if we were expected to do it on our own? Instead, because of God’s great love for us, He came down from heaven, and forever bridged the divide that sin causes between us and our perfect Father.

Micah 7:19 says, “He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” Satan wants nothing more than for us to be burdened by our sin. He desires for us to fix our attention on ourselves, not Jesus, but when we find our identity in Christ, we no longer need to feel weighed down by our sin and shame. We can instead turn our attention towards Christ and His goodness; towards the mission He has given us of declaring the good news of Jesus’ salvation. It doesn’t mean we won’t struggle any longer, but it does mean we are free from the condemnation of that sin. So today, we can together let go of the shame or guilt we feel from our past sins. We can move forward in the joy the Lord has set before us and approach God’s throne with grace knowing that the God of perfect love is on our side.
