Victim Or Victor—It's Your Choiceಮಾದರಿ
Jesus is the Truth
God came in and began to replace lies with His truth. He prompted me to study the life of Jesus in The Gospels. Not only how he lived, but how he thought. I said, “I want to live like Jesus which means I need to learn how to think like Jesus.” Because as a man thinks, so is he going to live.
I started studying the Bible with this mentality of trying to discover not only how Jesus lived but how He thought about life, about the things He was going through, and about the people around Him. I also tried to discover how He thought about the Father in Heaven, about His future and about His past.
A passage that God took me to, and that I took a deep dive into, is John 13. You may ask, what's a deep dive? I didn't just do it as a devotional for a day and go, “Wow, that's a cool passage!” I didn't just do it for one or two weeks. I went for several months, verse by verse, in John 13. There is just something that happened inside of me that I sensed the Lord was saying; He wanted to speak to me in a deep way. More than just a cursory read of what's happening here, there were deeper truths in each of these verses. He wanted to explode the truth in my heart that would change the way I thought and literally change my life to think like Jesus, so I could live like Jesus. One of those verses was about this Victim Mentality. So, as I studied John 13, God revealed to me what I'm taking you through.
John 13 is the passage in which Jesus is eating the Last Supper, the Passover meal, with his disciples. It's the night he's going to be arrested and He knows it. He knew His time had come. The next day He was going to die on the cross. He knew He was going to suffer; He was going to be tortured; He was going to go to the cross. He knew that one of the guys sitting at the table with Him, Judas Iscariot, was going to betray Him. He was going to go and lead the temple guards, the enemy, to the Garden where he would be later that night. If anybody ever had a right to feel like a victim, it was Jesus.
About this Plan
We all go through tough times. We all struggle and even suffer, even as Christians. The real problem comes when we allow the negativity of these events get into our head and produce in us a Victim Mentality. The good news is that with the help of God’s Word, you can overcome!
