Dare To Ask

DAY 2 OF 10

Dreams and Destiny

Yesterday we looked at dreaming. I believe that our untainted dreams, the deep yearnings in our hearts, are put there by God. They are somehow connected to our destiny. They are there to be realised, and to be a part of the essence of who we are.

That being said, it is important to understand that timing is crucial.

Ecclesiastes 3 is all about ‘everything having a season’.

There are different seasons in life, and sometimes we must let go of a dream and be prepared that it may never happen.

John 12: 24 says

“Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”

There is again a tension we must learn to live with, to be at peace that our dreams may never happen, while trusting that God placed them in our hearts for a reason. My dreams and hopes for the future are not something I am entitled to, they are gifts from Him and ultimately for His purposes. We must learn to live with a healthy passion of commitment to investing in our gifts, and expect God to give us situations in which our gifts can be used. But all the while it is necessary to hold onto the Maker of our dreams, rather than the dreams themselves. We have to be prepared to let the dream die so that it can produce fruit.

The comfort in these times of letting go and allowing dreams to die, is that nothing is wasted. What He is preparing you for is worth the wait. And when it’s time to go, you will accomplish your destiny with so much more authority and power than you would have done if you had skipped the waiting.

Time is a gift. It is in the waiting that we perfect the art of resting and listening. It is a theme common to many of our favorite Bible characters. Moses had 40 years in the desert waiting. Elijah had 3 years by the brook waiting. John the Baptist was in the desert for 30 years, waiting. Even Yeshua was in the desert for 40 days. These seasons of waiting prepare us for what is coming, and empower us to carry out what it is that’s coming, with a precision and authority that wouldn’t be there without the wait.

Do you dare to ask for His timing?
