Daily Bible Reading – April 2022: God’s Renewing Word of Hopeគំរូ
April 15
Introduction
Jesus carries his cross to “The Place of the Skull” (called “Golgotha” in Hebrew) where he is crucified. Pilate has an inscription placed on the cross, and soldiers gamble for Jesus’s clothing. At the cross, Jesus speaks to his mother and to a beloved disciple. Jesus’s final words from the cross indicate that he has completed the work God had given him to do.
Scripture Reading
John 19:16b-30
Today’s Key Verse: John 19:30
Jesus drank the wine and said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Reflect
What was the inscription Pilate put on the cross? Why did the chief priests object to what Pilate had written? What did Jesus say to his mother and to the disciple he loved (verses 25, 26)? In what ways does your community of faith care for others through works of love?
Pray
Holy Jesus, as I reflect on your suffering and death, I am mindful of your great love for me. You are my King and Savior, and I will praise you forevermore. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
John 19:31-40: Jesus is buried.
