Women and Money - She Handled It!គំរូ
Day 1: Where your treasure is, so is your heart
After growing up under a constant feeling of lack, financial uncertainty and no relationship with Christ, I determined at fifteen that a man would be my financial plan. I also expected him to fill that deep void within me. With such profound wisdom of a teenager (cue audible laugh), I blindly hitched everything I had to a driven young man and held on with utter desperation. I quickly learned my lesson that I was ultimately responsible for me, when I found myself divorced at twenty-four, broke and alone in a new apartment, discovering the painful realization that a man is not a financial plan.
Our relationship with money colors everything we do (Matthew 6:21). When we have our needs financially met, feelings of security and freedom abound. Money gives us choices and allows us to be generous. When we are confused, ignorant or in a constant feeling of monetary lack, we struggle to feel confident in our decisions and we often perpetuate generational issues. Many women feel unprepared, perplexed or shame surrounding money and how to accumulate, invest and steward it so that it will last their lifetime (and beyond).
80% of men die married, while 80% of women die single. That stat will likely stun you if you are married. You will likely be the last woman standing left to “handle it,” and that includes your finances. In this 7-day devotional I am going to be brutally honest about mistakes I have made, things I have learned, and bring practical steps to help you improve the narrative of your life in regard to money. God has provided the tools you need to succeed (Matthew 7:25); I am here to inspire you to walk them out.
I know you can handle this (2 Timothy 1:7)!
Reflection: Are you putting all your trust for financial security in another person? Would you feel prepared if something unexpectedly happened to them? What kind of insecurities do you have surrounding money? Do you know where those resonate from?
Tip: God will help you through this!
