In Paul's letter to the church in Ephesus, he "urges" the church to live lives worthy of the calling they have received.
What does it mean for me to live a life worthy of my calling?
Read the passage just before this verse and you’ll understand that the calling Paul’s speaking of is no small assignment. In fact, Paul uses language so powerful it's hard for our human minds to comprehend.
In Ephesians 3:19–20, Paul says, "and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us . . .”
This calling (or assignment) is to be filled with all of God's power, so he can work through us. Paul's prayer for the church in Ephesus applies to each of us today.
That's a lot to think about and more than a little intimidating. So, what are we supposed to do with an extraordinary assignment like this? Paul tells us, "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
It's so simple, yet so difficult. Let's all take this day to be worthy of our calling. Let's pray for absolute humility and unlimited patience. Let's practice these commitments today and see how God works through us.
