DAY FOUR: Jesus is Our Passover Lamb
Let me ask you an important question: Do you think the blood of the bull and goat were literally what saved Israel from being punished for their sins? Of course not! Those animals were not holy in themselves. Therefore this was not a perfect exchange of righteousness to take the place of sinfulness.
The bulls, goats, and blood were mere symbols that God established as the acceptable payment for sin. God had instructed the Jewish people to offer those things; it was not as if they had suggested them in a brainstorming meeting with God about how to solve their national sin crisis.
Those symbols were mere placeholders for the real sacrifice: Jesus! The bulls, goats, and blood did not have any real value in and of themselves, yet God accepted them because He knew the actual payment—the real exchange— would come.
Jesus is forever “our Passover lamb” (1 Cor. 5:7). Just as the Jews marked their doorposts with the blood of a spotless lamb, we can be covered by Jesus’ blood. When we receive Jesus in faith, the spiritual doorposts of our lives are marked with His blood, which protects us from impending judgment.

Ask any Jew what the difference is between Judaism and Christianity, and he will say one word: Jesus. In this 5-day devotional, Rabbi Kirt A. Schneider unpacks why understanding the person of Jesus is instrumental in bridging the gap between Judaism and Christianity.
