DAY 8 OF 10

 A Time To Connect

When we look at the creation narrative in the book of Genesis, we see a version of humanity that is almost incomprehensible in the world in which we now live: fully relational, connected to their Creator, nothing hidden, no need for shame. Our wholeness then (as can be now) was found in our ability to give all of ourselves to God and our fellow humanity.

It was sin that ushered in shame, causing us to hide our real selves from God, and that resulted in separation. We then kept an irreconcilable distance from God. It sabotaged the rhythm and flow of how life should be. With no way to regain that connection, we began to live lives with God’s best just out of reach. Thank goodness for Jesus and the power of the cross to reconnect us to our Father!

But the effects of sin have been manifold. Sin has set the precedent for how we relate to one another as well as God. Whilst our internal compass constantly tries to point us towards people, relationship and connectivity, sin pollutes our lives, so that often we feel unwilling or unable to include others in our day-to-day.

So recognizing that we need a time to connect is vital in living a life of purpose.

The story of Elisha and the widow in today’s reading is one of miraculous provision, but also human connection. The widow had to ask her friends for empty jars. The miracle ended when the jars stopped coming, and the jars stopped coming when she ran out of friends to ask. So the abundance we have in Jesus and the provision we receive from God cannot be separated from our connection to people.

When it comes to purpose, we must never forget the greatest call on our life – to go out and make disciples! I defy you to find a way to do that without making meaningful connections.

Being intentional in setting aside time to connect, first with God and then other people, will do wonders for our life and our sense of fulfillment. We were made for meaningful relational connection. God designed us that way, and He constantly puts opportunities in our way so that we can live as He intended.

Make today your day; your day and your time to connect!
