All Sons & Daughters - Devotional

DAY 7 OF 7

More Than Anything

In order to learn how to ride a bike, the learner must get on the bike and make a commitment to fumble/stumble/fall/wobble their way to understanding. They must experience the wrongness and rightness of their body’s instincts. They must experience the push and pull of pedaling and steering over and over until all of their initial suppositions are reinforced or replaced with the true physical and mental requirements of bike riding. It is a similar concept for the person who wishes to understand the love of Christ BUT, the needed commitment is far greater, the experience can be much messier and the reward will be beyond any expectation.

Our instincts are out of sync with the rhythms of His love. We cannot comprehend the depths, height, width, and lengths of His love. We end up pushing too much when we need to pull and slowing down when we need to speed up but, He is patient and will allow us all the time we need to experience His love. He will keep binding the broken, bringing light into the dark places, calming storms and displaying strength until there is no other life we could possibly envision. Until our instincts have been made over and we find ourselves saying, “Ah! It is You that I need!” Then we finally understand that it is only with Him that we are complete and have fullness of life.
