Hiding Place Devotional

DAY 3 OF 10

Lose It

It never fails. Just as sure as my morning cup of coffee (or four), it will happen. All at once, the dog will bark to go outside, children are fighting over a red crayon, and the grilled cheese sandwiches are burning (which causes the fire alarm to go off). Meanwhile, I’m doing my own rendition of the pee-pee dance. And all of it happening while I'm ON. THE. PHONE. This is the nitty gritty stuff of motherhood. Whether you are type A or type Z personality, you cannot escape this chaos. This pretty much comes with the job description. It’s listed somewhere between "BE the milk factory" and "sing bedtime lullabies." Oh yes, there it is: "embrace chaos." I've been thinking a lot lately about what it really means to embrace chaos. Do we just find some way to laugh it off? A sense of humor is definitely high up on that job description, but that only goes so far. It doesn't take long before my easy-going-laid-back-carefree laughter turns into something that sounds a little more like the Wicked Witch of the West. So if not that, then what? Do we give ourselves over to it? Do we become the poster child for chaos, with big bold block letters that read, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?” Well I don't know about you, but I do not want to hang that poster on my wall. We can’t resign to the mess of life or beat it over the head with a hammer. We can ignore it either. We must submit ourselves to the One who left the perfection of heaven to live in our messy midst. The One who chose to bear our chaos on the cross. Has the whirlwind of chaos left you fighting for your life? You cannot save yourself, friend. You are not the hero of your story. It's time we take off our boxing gloves, unclench our fists, and lift open hands in surrender to the Savior. To embrace chaos could simply be put like this: say YES to this season of your life. Let go of your life. It doesn't mean you'll lose your identity. In fact, the opposite is true. Losing your life = gaining Christ's. Your identity is hidden in Christ, and no amount of chaos could ever take that away from you.

About this Plan

Hiding Place Devotional

Aren't there times as a mom that you just want to hide...like in the pantry with a chocolate bar?  Hidden from the storms of life and the weight of responsibilities. Hidden from the noise. Hidden from the routine. Hidden from our to-do lists. Just hidden and alone with Christ where we can hear Him call us by name and let His songs of victory fill our ears.
