Skillet - Unleashed - The Overflow DevoSample
“The Resistance” Devotional
Skillet
Of the many places Skillet has traveled around the world, many people do not know and have never heard of Jesus.
While being interviewed in Russia recently, I was asked, “Who is your hero?” I replied, “Jesus.” They followed my answer with another question: “Jesus who?” We kept talking and the interviewer said, “Oh, Jesus of Nazareth, killed by the Romans. Are you saying that you think Jesus is God?” That exchange was a definitive, “You’re not in Kansas anymore, John,” moments.
Many Christians are unaware of the reality of spiritual warfare, and further unaware of our need to join the fight. Who of us will resist sin and hate and fear in the world? In Romans 10, Paul writes, “How can they believe in him when they have not heard?” (vs. 14) If we don’t stand up – if I don’t stand up and you don’t stand up – who will answer Jesus’ rally to “Go … and make disciples of all the nations?” (Matthew 28:18)
Faith is like a fire
That never burns to embers
Who's gonna stand up?
Who's gonna fight?
Our stand against apparent evil in the world and our culture is also a resistance to apathy among those of us who call ourselves Christians. “If God is on our side, then tell me: whom should we fear?” (Romans 8: 31) Did you hear that? God is on our side. As believers, the Spirit of God is outfitting us with power as He works in and through us, so that we are never alone in battle.
I often wonder if we understand that through God’s provision of redemption we are no longer slaves to the world. We are “more than conquerors.” (Romans 8:37). Though in and of our own resources we are weak, He is making us strong through His strength abiding in us. Do we really understand our spiritual strength?
Walk through the fire
Walk on the water
Used to be a slave
But now you are a conqueror
We are not weak. We are not alone. And as we partner with Christians throughout the world, under His omniscient leadership, we are more than equipped to penetrate the darkness with His light. When we join in the battle, we will witness God opening the eyes of people’s hearts all over the world.
