Same Kind of Different As Me

DAY 4 OF 4

Responding to Jesus’ Invitation

Jesus said a lot about serving needy people – but alone it’s not enough. Jesus didn’t send us to just alleviate physical suffering. He also sent us to minister to people spiritually, teaching them to trust and follow Christ (Matthew 28:18-20).

We shouldn’t view this as a burden, but a privilege. We’re bringing people Good News! We can bless people not only in this life, but into eternity – with the forgiveness and grace of Christ.

Denver Moore, a former homeless man who is central in the story in the SAME KIND OF DIFFERENT AS ME book and movie explains, “I'm a nobody … trying to tell everybody … about somebody … that can save anybody.”

How can people obtain that salvation? According to John 1:12, by believing Jesus’ claims and receiving him as their Savior. We need to help them see that Jesus, the sinless Son of God, died on the cross for their sins and rose from the grave to give them new life. Then, if they’re ready, we can lead them in a prayer of repentance, in which they turn from their sins, receive his forgiveness, and ask his Holy Spirit to lead them from that day forward. It’s a simple step of faith – one that changes everything!

Consider:

· We can’t give away what we don’t have. We can go to church but not really know and follow Jesus in a genuine way. Have you gone beyond just observing religious traditions to find a real relationship with God?

· Do you know someone you could share the gospel with, perhaps showing them a verse like John 1:12, and explaining how they can find salvation by both believing the truth about Jesus and receiving him as their forgiver and leader?

That’s the exciting invitation from Jesus that we get to share – with everyone!
