Luke Hellebronth - Devotions from ’Stand Up’Sample
MIRACLE OF GRACE
This song is all about the story of the Prodigal son, the journey that in one sense, we are all on, the journey back to God:
Reckless and broken, lost and alone
Tired and empty, longing for home
But I come to my senses, with tears in my eyes
You run to my rescue, You're saving my life
God’s grace to us is a miracle. Without it we would be going through life constantly falling short and lacking any meaning or real purpose. What happened on the cross was miraculous because through Jesus dying, He bridged the gap of our short fallings and brought us back into relationship with the Father.
I am so aware of my deep need for God. Although I fall so far, God comes running to me again and again with open arms. As we rest in His embrace we fall more into His heart. We realise where we were in life and because of His grace where we now are:
Kneeling, ashamed of all that I was
Fully embraced by prodigal love
Wrapped in compassion, I'm held in delight
The life in your laughter, joy in your wine
I wrote this song with Aaron Keyes and he had the brilliant idea of drawing in the narrative of the other son into the song. He often gets forgotten about! With the reckless younger son coming home into open arms and a party he is disgruntled and angry that he has never received a party himself. However the father says to him "Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours".
Wherever you are in life, whether you identify more with the younger or older son, the reward you receive from God is huge. The reward is Himself, the loving Father!
His undeserving love, grace and mercy - what a miracle.

About this Plan
Luke Hellebronth, part of Worship Central and Holy Trinity Brompton Church in London, recently released his debut worship album ’Stand Up'. This series of devotions takes three songs from the album and looks at the Scriptures on which they are based. You will see the inspiration behind each song as you read more of God’s Word.
