Got Water - A Serving Devotional

DAY 3 OF 5

Serving is a Step of Faith

What if you were one of the servants at the wedding? Think about what you are being asked to do. On top of that, as a servant you have no choice, no objection when your master commands. However, Jesus wasn’t the master of the house. So as a servant you know there is no more wine, one or all of you may be in trouble for this shortfall and now some Galilean is asking you to fill heavy stone jars with water and present it as wine. Just water!? This will make a bad situation worse. Think of the Servants’ faith. There was no wine. The Servants knew what was in the jars was water. Even so the servants followed Jesus’ direction and then presented it to the master of the banquet. Scripture doesn’t comment on when the miracle took place. Either way, whether the water turned to exquisite wine the moment Jesus asked them to draw some or when it was poured for the master of the banquet, being part of the process required faith. Jesus worked with the servants, who needed to exercise faith that what Christ was asking them to do would lead to their problems being solved. When serving our Lord, we also need to exercise the same faith. Often we think God will work the way we think something should be done. God truly works in mysterious ways and when we put our faith in Him, the results are beyond imagination.

About this Plan

Got Water - A Serving Devotional

There are a lot of excuses for not serving God. Looking at Christ’s first miracle (John 2:3-8), we can see how can we offer up all we have, water from our own wells, in service to Jesus, the results are exquisite wine.
