Shine Like Stars: Devotions From Time of Grace

DAY 12 OF 33

Speech That Shines: God's stars tell the truth

Lies come naturally. Children do not have to take lying lessons or spend a week at summer lying camp to become skilled at it. They seem to discover distressingly soon in life that they can evade and shift blame, ditch responsibility, and avoid trouble by lying. It's so easy. It's just talk.

Adults lie just as much and more, although they grow more sophisticated and clever in their lies. Police crime investigations and courtroom trials would take one-fourth the time if people would just tell the truth, if they just wouldn't lie.

Shine like a star. Be different. Here is a better way: "Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices" (Colossians 3:9). Lies rot out your character and destroy. Telling the truth, though it may bring short-term discomfort, hastens healing and builds character. God promises that your life will be better if you stop lying and tell the truth. Do you believe him? Call his bluff and find out.

About this Plan

Shine Like Stars: Devotions From Time of Grace

We are Christians because God chose us; decided to love us in spite of our sin; and sent Jesus to live, die, and rise again for our forgiveness. Belonging to God means changing our sinful ways. This reading plan will help you make those changes in your behavior and life so that you shine like stars.
