Billy Graham's the Reason for My Hope

DAY 8 OF 15

Jesus Take All Of Me

Sin incurs the penalty of death, and no one can save himself from sin’s penalty, nor to cleanse his heart of its filth. Jesus said, “Whoever sins is a slave of sin” (John 8:34). That’s the bad news. Now here is the Good News: God loves the sinner, but He demands repentance. . . . yet it was God’s love for sinners that sent Jesus down from Heaven to wipe out the very thing that holds us hostage to guilt, shame, and utter hopelessness. He has crushed sin’s power through His love, which reflects His compassion, mercy, and divine grace. The Bible says,

Who is a God like You,

Pardoning iniquity

And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage?
He does not retain His anger forever,

Because He delights in mercy. . . .

You will cast all our sins

Into the depths of the sea.

(Micah 7:18–19)

God’s offer is to all sinners, “I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities” (Jeremiah 33:8). Sin’s masterpiece of hopelessness is overshadowed by God’s masterpiece of forgiveness and mercy.

Humanity’s chief trouble is sin. God’s chief truth is the wonderful gift of His salvation. And Jesus Christ is the only remedy for sin. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
