Better Together: Connecting With God And Each OtherSample
Is It Really Worth It?
The Lone Ranger: Hi-ho, Silver, away!
Narrator: [at the beginning of each episode] A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty "Hi-ho, Silver, away!" The Lone Ranger!
Bad guy in Jail: Who was that masked man?
Law enforcement officer: I don't know. I've heard him called the Lone Ranger.
When we step back and look at our lives and the ways we minister, it is definitely a temptation to be a lone ranger. Often we feel the need to do direct ministry and spend every waking moment of our time living out our mission. That is the noble and right thing to do!
But what about others? What about collaborating? Is there any space for them? Is there any time? We take it all upon ourselves to reach every single one of them with the Gospel before it is too late.
With a simple change of perspective, we see the potential that is never reached alone. We can be the ministry superman, the 24/7 do-it-all guy, yet, while we have impact on a few as individuals, the many cannot be reached by us alone.
What if?
What if we sought out partners to do God's work together?
What if we had a team of collaborators alongside us?
What if?
We need the body of Christ if we are going to make a long-lasting impact on the world that we are called to reach. We are just one small part of the bigger body that God has built to reach the schools, work places, jails, neighborhoods, and communities. It’s bigger than we are…no more lone rangers!
Reflections:
- In what ways have you been the lone ranger, too busy to partner?
- Take time to look at your strengths, and consider what part of the Body you are. Where are your weaknesses? What other parts might you need to help you function as a member of the Body? Prayerfully seek those people and organizations out.
