Day 1: The Reality of Sin

Scripture Reading: Romans 3:23; Romans 3:10-18

"As it is written: 'There is no one righteous, not even one...'" – Romans 3:10

Before we can share the good news, we must understand the bad news: every person, no matter how good they seem, has fallen short of God’s standard. Romans 3:10-18 paints a sobering picture of humanity. Left to ourselves, we are separated from God, prone to selfishness, deception, and destruction.

This truth is foundational to sharing the gospel. We won’t see our need for salvation if we don't recognize our sin. Many people believe they are "good enough" for heaven, but the Bible makes it clear: no one is righteous on their own.

Think about your own life. Was there a time when you thought you were doing fine without God? What made you realize that you needed Him? This realization is a key part of your testimony.

Sharing the Truth with Others

When talking with someone about Jesus, this step can feel difficult. No one likes to be told they are a sinner. Instead of pointing fingers, share from your own experience. Explain how you understood that sin is not just about doing “bad things” but about a heart that is distant from God.

Encourage the person to reflect on their own life. Questions like, “Have you ever felt like something was missing?” or “Do you ever struggle with guilt or regret?” can open the door for deeper conversation. We can even point out that we don’t live up to the standard we set for ourselves, let alone the standard of perfection set by God.

Take time today to reflect on how you came to understand your own sinfulness. Write a few sentences about the moment (or season) you realized you needed Jesus. This understanding will become part of your testimony that you can share with others.

Lord, I acknowledge that without You, I am lost. Thank You for opening my eyes to my need for Your grace. Give me courage and wisdom as I begin to share my faith. Help me to lovingly communicate the truth to others so they, too, can see their need for You. It is in the name of Jesus we pray, amen.
