Christianity thrived in Türkiye (population: 85,600,600) for centuries before it became a focal point for the spread of Islam. Over time, the Christian population dwindled significantly, declining from 22% in 1900 to less than 0.2% today. Despite its historical Christian legacy, a vast majority of Türkiye’s 73,000,000 Muslims have had limited exposure to the Gospel.

Türkiye operates as a secular state, yet Turkish cultural identity is closely tied to Islam. While the constitution, courts, and military theoretically uphold religious freedom, societal attitudes can vary. Even some secular Turks may harbor anti-Christian sentiments akin to those of Islamists, contributing to challenges for religious minorities. Though Türkiye’s current trajectory appears to be veering toward authoritarianism, this may provide even more significant opportunities for spreading the Gospel.

Prayer Points to Consider:

• Pray for provision for the local church. Due to record-high inflation, many churches face financial challenges and struggle to keep their doors open.
• Ask for churches and Christian gatherings to find favor with local governments and provinces. Last year, a newly established church was forced to close simply because the local government did not want to see it there.
• Pray for believers to have strength and endurance in the face of persecution, especially those who have newly come to Christ. Pressure from family and friends can often confuse or discourage them in their walks with the Lord.
• Pray that true discipleship takes root and that believers grow strong and mature in their faith, experiencing the Holy Spirit’s power, fruit, and gifts—developing a deeper hunger for more of His Word.
• Ask Father for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to reach the lost, that searching hearts will come in contact with the Gospel through Christians, media, or Spirit-led encounters with the Lord.

Dear Lord Jesus...I pray for the nation of Türkiye. I ask that You bring unity to the local church and that Turkish believers develop their identity in You alone. Lord, I pray that You strengthen and equip believers through the life-breath of Your Word to share the hope they have found in You. I declare Your Name, Lord Jesus, to both Muslims and the non-religious across this nation, declaring You as the only Truth and rejecting the lies of Islam and secularism. Holy Spirit, please use Your signs and wonders to draw multitudes of people in this nation to the hope, joy, and life of the King of Kings. Amen!
