Day 21: Safety
Read
And yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand. –Isaiah 64:8
Connect
The closer you get to Christ, the more your inner peace increases.
And sometimes, so does your pain.
But that’s just part of having your heart transformed by God.
If God is the potter, then you are the clay. And clay can’t become a pot without first being softened and shaped.
A potter puts the clay where it needs to be—at the center of the wheel. Then the potter moistens and molds it. To mold it, the potter applies pressure to the clay while the wheel spins. And when the pot finally reflects the potter’s vision, he fires and glazes it.
In the same way, you are where you are right now because God put you there—because that’s where He needs you to be.
It’s where, like clay, you’re being softened and shaped.
The city you live in, the job you have, the church you choose all play a role—and so does the state of your intimate relationships.
Maybe you’re in the wake of a breakup. Grieving a loss. Still waiting to meet someone who’ll date you, who you want to date, too.
But God is present in these and all your life experiences.
Through them, He is creatively forming you.
He is purposefully and lovingly crafting you into the person He wants you to be. And that will stretch you. It could be uncomfortable, and even painful.
But remember: the safest place for clay is in the hands of a skilled potter.
The work God is doing might hurt—but He’s invested in you. He knows exactly how to turn you from who you are today into who He wants you to be tomorrow.
He’s refining you. He’s preparing you to serve your purpose according to His will.
And yes, there will be growing pains in the process.
But it will all be completely worth it.
Pray
I am the clay, God, and You are the potter. While sometimes there is pain in the process of being formed by You, I trust You and the work You’re doing in me. I’m excited to grow into the person You created me to be.
Reflect
Where is God stretching you lately? What growing pains, if any, are you feeling now? What can you do to move through the pain and grow, despite discomfort?

While intimate relationships are designed to remind you of God’s love for you, living them out in a fallen world often results in wounds. This plan will help you move closer to Christ, in your pursuit of hope and healing.
