Forty Days in the Psalms

DAY 20 OF 40

When we look at the Life of Jesus in the four Gospels, we are looking at absolute trust in God played out in flesh and blood. Jesus bet everything, even His Life, on the Goodness and Faithfulness of God. From the moment He was born into this world and until His last breath, He was constantly resisted, persecuted, and opposed.

Herod tried to have Him killed when He was born. His family had to flee with Him to Egypt. His mother, brothers, and neighbors were frequently confused and even offended at His claims. They went so far as to accuse Him of being out of His mind. More familiar to us was the constant questioning and harassment that He received from the religious authorities of His day...for the rest of His Life. This culminated in them handing Jesus over to Rome, the enemy and enslaver of Israel, to be crucified for claiming He was the Son of God.

On the Cross, the time came for the ultimate display of Jesus’ absolute trust in the Father. He was mocked and invited to come down from the Cross if He really was who He said He was. Instead, Jesus entrusted His Life and Ministry into His Father's Hands, with the confidence that God would see Him through, despite death itself.

Psalm 20 shows us what the Resurrection of Jesus was illustrating to all who hear; "Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright."

RESPOND IN PRAYER:

What areas of life have you bet on God by faith? Taking less money at your work so that you can invest in the church and your family? Risking your reputation to witness to the Goodness and Authority of God and His Word? Whatever these areas are for you, pray the words of Psalm 20 today. Remind yourself that when we celebrate the Resurrection from the dead of Jesus our Lord, we are proclaiming the Trustworthiness of God, no matter the stakes.
