The Rebuild: Matthew 5-7

DAY 9 OF 39

Everything seems to cost more these days and we seem to have less time on our hands. A worldly solution might be investing our assets and ensuring we keep time to ourselves. When we do something for others, or give of the time or money we’ve cultivated, we like our deeds to be acknowledged.

But Jesus tells us to give generously and act sacrificially as if no one is watching, finding joy in the quiet moments of kindness rather than in receiving praise. This might look like financially supporting people or a cause, using our skills and resources to help somebody, parting with our spare time as we share a meal, sending an encouraging message or engaging in deep conversation, carving out space to listen to someone; seeking to understand their needs and bringing those needs to the Lord.

When we practice those humble ways to give of ourselves and share the love of Christ, we can be assured that God will reward us in His own ways as He sees straight through to our heart. Often the prize He offers is more of Jesus Himself. And nothing could be more rewarding or generous than having Jesus.

Today, ponder this: Take a moment to consider where your money and time is spent. How are you investing into other things in comparison to how you are investing into the Kingdom of Jesus?

About this Plan

The Rebuild: Matthew 5-7

“You have heard it said…” In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus begins to rebuild and reform our understanding of life in His Kingdom. In Matthew 5-7, He challenges the religious traditions of His day and the competing worldviews of our own. His words are a call to transformation—a new way to live under His reign. As Jesus lays the foundation for His Kingdom, we are invited to tear down false beliefs and build our lives on His truth.
