Mentoring Lessons- Freely Give

DAY 5 OF 5

Give God the credit

How do you see your own successes?

A friend was working hard to find investors to establish a new team in a professional sports league. He requested some help to connect him with people in the city who could afford to invest in a new sports club.

This is usually a slow and difficult process.

I visited the city and stayed with another friend I thought would be a perfect fit to invest financially in the new club. I stayed as a guest in his home and discussed the new club with him at breakfast, but he wasn’t at all interested. I was disappointed!

Another guest, a young man who also happened to be at breakfast, listened quietly to our discussion until our host excused himself to take a phone call. The young man and I were left at the table.

“I would like to buy a share”, said the young man after hearing the conversation. I was taken aback and didn’t know if this very young man was serious. It turned out he was serious, very serious, and he became one of the new club owners. Surprisingly, I was at the right home but just hadn’t met the right person until breakfast.

Our best plans often fail. But while doing the best we can with our plan, the Lord will occasionally use our faithful efforts to accomplish the hoped-for outcome, in the most astonishing way. The Lord doesn’t like to share His glory, so don’t be surprised at a great result where we can’t take any credit.

Scripture to ponder – Proverbs 16:9

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.

Key Lesson: Be faithful to how you are led. Don’t take credit for what the Lord does. God loves to work despite you, not because of you
