Trail Builders: Riding Together in Discipleship

DAY 5 OF 5

Spread the Joy

Ready
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”--Matthew 28:19-20

Set
The best part of riding isn’t just experiencing it yourself—it’s sharing it with others. Think about the first time you introduced a friend to mountain biking. Maybe you guided them through a trail, showed them how to pick a line, or helped them conquer a tough climb. Then, one day, you see them leading their own group, passing on the same love for the ride that you shared with them. It’s a moment of pride and joy, knowing you played a part in helping them grow.

Jesus’ final instructions to His disciples were much like this. He didn’t just teach them to follow Him—He empowered them to go out and make disciples themselves. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus sends His followers into the world with the Great Commission, giving them a mission to multiply what He had started. But even as He launched them out, He promised His presence, assuring them they wouldn’t be alone.

When we empower others in their faith, it’s like watching them conquer a tough trail solo for the first time. You’ve modeled what it looks like, given them tools and support, and now it’s time to let them take the lead. Empowering others is about stepping back and trusting them to carry what they’ve learned forward, knowing that God is with them every step of the way.

Discipleship is about multiplication, not just addition. When you equip and launch someone into leadership, their impact ripples outward—reaching people you might never meet yourself. Just like a new rider introducing others to the joy of mountain biking, empowering others to disciple creates a multiplying network of faith that keeps growing.

  1. Who in your life is ready to step into leadership in their faith?
  2. How can you encourage and support someone as they begin discipling others?

Overtime
God, thank You for the joy of sharing this journey with others. Help me empower those around me to step into the purpose You’ve called them to. Give me the courage to step back, trusting You to guide them as they grow. Use us to spread Your love and multiply Your Kingdom. Amen.
