Sustaining the Change
Transformation in Christ is a beautiful beginning, but sustaining that change requires real work. Think about learning a new skill—whether it’s basketball, playing an instrument, or excelling in school. You don’t practice once and become great; it takes consistency and effort. Similarly, our walk with Christ requires daily commitment to sustain the freedom He’s given us.
Freedom in Christ means we’re no longer controlled by sin, bad habits, or anything that held us back (Galatians 5:1). It’s the ability to live as the new person Christ created us to be. But freedom isn’t about doing whatever we want—it’s about loving God, loving others, and walking in purpose.
To sustain this freedom, we must make intentional choices. This might mean disconnecting from people or things that threaten the “new you.” It could be a friendship that encourages unhealthy habits, social media that fuels comparison, or distractions like music or shows pulling you away from God. Walking in freedom means guarding your heart and staying focused on who Christ calls you to be.
Here’s the good news: Jesus began the transformation, and He promises to sustain it (Philippians 1:6). But we also play a role.
Think of it like growing a plant. The plant doesn’t grow on its own—you must water it, provide sunlight, and remove weeds. In the same way, Jesus causes growth in us, but we create the conditions for faith to thrive by staying connected to Him.
Sustaining transformation means living in Christ’s freedom and refusing to return to old ways. It’s about saying, “I’m not who I used to be, and I won’t let anything pull me back.” As we depend on Jesus daily, He keeps us growing and becoming more like Him.
Reflection Question:
What in your life might be keeping you from fully walking in freedom? How can you let it go?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for setting me free. Help me stand firm and disconnect from anything that threatens the new person You’ve created in me. I trust You to complete the good work You’ve started, and I ask for strength to stay connected to You daily. Amen.
