The world will inevitably disappoint us; even the kindest and most virtuous individuals will let us down. When we anchor our hope in worldly things—be it culture, government, family, friends, or our jobs—we will frequently encounter disappointment and uncertainty. You can strive to be the most "perfect" Christian, attending church every week, engaging in daily devotionals, and praying extensively, but if our hope isn’t intentionally placed in the right place, we will find ourselves lost.

Psalms 130:5 captures David’s self-encouragement, as he expresses, "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope." David shows unwavering commitment, without any room for doubt or divided loyalty. He emphasizes that "his entire being" is devoted to waiting and placing hope in God’s word.

This reflection leads me to wonder what I have fully committed myself to. Have I ever been entirely dedicated to something? Or have I reserved a part of my hopes, dreams, and visions for God while keeping a fallback plan in the world?

Every day, we wage war against the enemy, and often, the biggest threat to our hope stems from our own misalignment and lack of discipline in placing our hope. We have the ability to ask ourselves daily: Where will I place my hope? Am I patient enough to wait for the Lord, eagerly entrusting my entire hope to His word?

PRAYER

Thank you, Lord, for loving us, even though we are far from perfect. Thank you for being a secure and reliable home for our hope at all times. As we build the strength and discipline to continually place our hope in You, continue to challenge our faith. Place a passion in our hearts to be faithful women of God whose hope can continually be found wholeheartedly in You.
