Walk This WaySample
Walk Worthy
In Ephesians 1-3, Paul lays a theological foundation for understanding salvation, the unification of all believers in Christ, and the wonder of the Gospel’s power. The second half of Ephesians explains how to live in light of these truths.
Paul begins his practical exhortations by urging believers to “live a life worthy of the calling” they have received in Christ. This calling is not just a set of beliefs or a personal salvation experience; it is a call to a new way of living, a life that aligns with our identity as followers of Christ. Every aspect of our lives should reflect God’s character and the Gospel’s power. Paul emphasizes that this call requires intentionality, humility, and a commitment to unity.
Paul goes on to specify what this worthy life looks like lived out. He calls believers to be “completely humble and gentle,” qualities that stand in stark contrast to the pride and aggression often seen in the world. Humility means recognizing our dependence on God and valuing others above ourselves. Gentleness involves strength under control and choosing to respond with kindness rather than harshness. These two qualities lay the foundation for healthy relationships within the body of Christ.
Paul further highlights patience and forbearance. He urges us to “bear with one another in love,” recognizing that we will face differences, frustrations, and even offenses as members of the body. But love compels us to extend grace and forgiveness, just as God has done for us. The bond of peace, which Paul calls us to maintain, is not just the absence of conflict but an active pursuit of reconciliation and harmony within the church.
Finally, Paul’s call to “make every effort” reminds us that unity and peace require intentional work. It is not always easy to live out these qualities, but with the Holy Spirit’s help, we are empowered to live in a way that honors God and strengthens the body of Christ.
As we seek to live a life worthy of our calling, let us reflect on the humility, gentleness, patience, and love that Christ demonstrated for us. In doing so, we not only grow in our relationship with Him but also contribute to the unity and health of the church.

Walk This Way
When it comes to knowing God, there are many voices in our culture clamoring to you and clamoring to me, saying, “Walk this way.”
In Philippians 3:15-16, the apostle Paul tells us, “Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.” Paul is saying, “Listen, if you really want to have a life that shines and matters for God, you need to walk and to live according to His Word and the pattern that I have explained to you.” Yet, the culture, the things around us, and inside of us as fallen men and women are constantly pulling us to walk a different way than God’s way.
As Christ-followers, we walk differently than the world. Ours is a walk centered on the Gospel. It is a walk focused on others, and it is a walk filled with joy. It is a walk that we should not try to do alone but in community with the body of Christ. Second Baptist is a place where you can build authentic, replenishing relationships with people who are walking, not perfectly, but are trying to walk according to the pattern of Christ. If you are not in a Bible Study class, I encourage you to join one and get involved. You will be glad you did!

About this Plan
Throughout time, and especially in the Bible, the word “walk” has been used as a metaphor to describe the course, cadence, and overall spiritual direction of our lives. From the Garden of Eden to the present day, part of God’s redemptive call and work is teaching His children to “walk this way,” giving direction, counsel, and guidance to our steps. One thing is clear: He cares how we live our lives and desires that we journey through this life in a way that counts.
