Journey With Jesus 365

DAY 55 OF 365

How can you, as a person, stay focused on Jesus in such a distracting world?

Mary and Martha lived in Bethany with their brother Lazarus. Jesus stopped at their home more than once to fellowship. There is no doubt that there was a friendship between them because the Bible records that Jesus wept when Lazarus died. On one occasion, Jesus visited their home and resolved a minor dispute between the sisters while He was there. Martha was busy preparing the house for Jesus while Mary was consumed with spending time with Jesus. Martha was irritated at her sister’s lack of attention to the details of cleaning and prepping food. However, Jesus pointed out to Martha that Mary had actually chosen the most important thing. He called this thing “needful.” Our lives should always be focused on the most needful things and not on the things of lesser value.

Did Mary intentionally try to hurt Martha? What can we learn from Mary and Martha in this story? Do you value spending time WITH Jesus more than doing things FOR Jesus?
