Twelve Drummers Drumming: The Gift of Forever Celebration
“Praise him with drums and dancing! Praise him with the loud, resounding clash of cymbals! Praise him with every instrument you can find!” – Psalm 150:4 (TPT)
On the twelfth day of Christmas,
my true love gave to me
Twelve drummers drumming,
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree!
This final gift from our True Love brings us to the grand conclusion of the gospel message, wrapped up in the eternal praise that we are destined to give to our Creator.
As a drummer myself, I can’t help but feel a special connection to this gift. Drums, with their resounding beat, have a way of stirring the soul. And what joy it brings me to know that in heaven, there will be endless worship, singing, and yes, drumming! Psalm 150 paints a vivid picture of the worship that will fill the heavenly realms—worship that includes every instrument, from the softest strings to the loudest drums, all resounding in praise to God.
The ultimate message of Christmas, and indeed of the gospel, is that it is all for God’s glory. Though humanity faltered and broke the covenant time and again, God—through Jesus—took on flesh to fulfill the covenant once and for all. The Christmas story isn’t just a one-time event; it’s a celebration that continues forever. For all who believe in Him, the joy of Christmas extends into eternity. There will be endless praise, singing, and rejoicing, with drums and dancing (or, as the Yorubas will describe it, alujo), as we give glory to the One who made it all possible.
In the final verse of this allegory, we see that the true meaning of Christmas transcends the season—it’s a story of God’s unending love, a love that echoes through eternity. The drums, the dancing, the singing—all are expressions of the joy and peace that will never cease for those who trust in Christ.
Over to You:
- As we reflect on this final gift of the twelfth day, ask yourself: How are you responding to the endless love of your True Love? What instruments of praise are you offering up today?
- Remember, Christmas is more than a season—it’s a forever celebration of God’s love. Let your heart resound with joy, singing, dancing, and drumming as you give Him the glory He deserves.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible gift of Your love, revealed through the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. We rejoice that Christmas is not just a moment, but an eternal celebration. Help us to live each day in the joy of this truth, offering our lives as instruments of praise to You. May our hearts and voices join in the heavenly chorus, declaring that You are worthy of all honor, glory, and praise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
