Contentment vs Greed: How to Find Satisfaction in Our SaviorSample
Introduction
We live in a world where success is measured by status, money in the bank, and material possessions. This idealization of earthly possessions has distracted us from what really matters and created a sense of constant discontent. We can never have enough. We will never be enough. We can never do enough.
As Christians and followers of Christ, we know this couldn’t be further from the truth, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t feel the same pull as others.
While it’s true that we are constantly bombarded with messages that tell us we need more—more money, more things, more status—to be happy and fulfilled, the Bible offers a radically different perspective.
Instead of urging us to chase after wealth, the Word calls us to find our satisfaction in God.
This 3-day devotional focuses on the intersection of faith, money, and contentment. We will explore the dangers of loving money, learn the secret of being content in all circumstances, and discover the peace that comes from trusting God to meet our needs.
As we reflect on these truths, the goal is not just to understand what the Bible says about money but to experience a transformation in our hearts.
Day 1: Why we should never love money
Money is tempting. Not just the actual dollar and cents, but the assumed ease that comes with having it. We believe that money will solve all our problems and even prevent new ones from happening.
While there is some truth to this—money can open some doors and also ease worries—it's the love of money that the Bible warns us about. Money is not a savior. It is a tool, not something to be praised, worshiped or chased.
When we place our trust, hope, and identity in wealth, it pulls us away from God and causes unnecessary grief and hardship. Money is fleeting; God’s love is not.
Let us pray together. Please clear your head and open your heart.
Father God, help me to see money as a tool, not an idol to be worshiped. Keep me from being consumed by the desire for wealth and help me find my satisfaction in You alone. Give me wisdom to manage the resources You’ve given me and to trust You with my needs. Amen.
Q: How can I use my wealth to pour into my church home and those in need?
Q: How have I allowed the pursuit of money or material possessions to take priority over my relationship with God? Were the outcomes what I expected? If presented with a similar situation in the future, what would I do differently?
