A Season of WaitingSample
Yet to be Fulfilled
This is one of the world’s most-read and best-loved Bible verses, especially so at Christmas. Written by the prophet Isaiah 730 years before the birth of Jesus Christ it foretells Jesus’ titles, character, positions, and authority.
Prophecy is clearest when already fulfilled. The titles of Jesus such as ‘Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace’ all point to Christ’s past and ongoing ministry.
But like most prophecies, it has also a ‘yet to be fully fulfilled’ element to it especially when Isaiah says – ‘of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end’. That is, His first coming was as the Saviour of the world bringing eternal life to all who believe, but His yet-to-happen second coming is to finish that work and govern the planet forever.
The events of the last year especially cause us to long for peaceful resolutions to long-held conflicts. How good is it than to realise that God has a plan, that Jesus Christ is the answer, and that ‘The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this’.

About this Plan
“The original definition of advent was used to describe the preparation time to welcome the arrival of a person or event of significance. For Christians, it is a time to prepare to remember the birth of Jesus as our saving one (Messiah).” (What Is Advent? Kath Henry). As we approach Christmas & the New Year, read along with this plan and focus your hearts back on Him.
