A Season of Waiting

DAY 11 OF 28

Our Greatness is Through Jesus

What does it mean to be great? Society says we need to keep climbing the ladder or keep amassing accolades and achievements to be great or worthy of praise. But the kingdom of God is not the kingdom of man. It is not based on achievements, qualifications, or the titles we collect. It is based on Jesus and what He accomplished at Calvary.

His crucifixion, death, and resurrection tore the veil, enabling us to have eternal life with our heavenly Father. His willingness to die in our place meant He bore the penalty of our sins and in exchange, we received salvation and redemption. We are made righteous by His love and grace. That’s what makes us great.

It is not by our own strength or doing but by His. When Jesus said that whoever is the least of these is greater than John the Baptist, He wasn’t diminishing what John had done. He also wasn’t trying to boost anyone else’s ego. He was saying that through Him, we are made righteous and have the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and help us advance the kingdom of God. We have greater opportunities to point people to Jesus through the loving guidance of the Holy Spirit in us.

As we prepare our hearts this Advent season to celebrate Christmas and the hope we have in Jesus, let us remember the privilege of being called sons and daughters of the Creator. Let us remember that by His Holy Spirit, we can help people experience for themselves the love, redemption, and salvation we have in Jesus.

About this Plan

A Season of Waiting

“The original definition of advent was used to describe the preparation time to welcome the arrival of a person or event of significance. For Christians, it is a time to prepare to remember the birth of Jesus as our saving one (Messiah).” (What Is Advent? Kath Henry). As we approach Christmas & the New Year, read along with this plan and focus your hearts back on Him.
